About Kathy Adkins, Cert. Dementia Specialist

Kathy Adkins

My Mission

To relieve the daily stress and frustrations that arise from caring for a client or family member with dementia.  Recommended by several area physicians, ask your physician about getting this service. I am a tiny fraction of the cost compared to facility care. I help families after facility placement, too. I monitor care and all aspects of care.  Stop worrying about things that do not seem to go right in a care facility.  I follow the latest Kansas care standards and ensure your loved one is safe and in great care situations.  20 years as a Legal Nurse Consultant.

My Credentials

I am a long-time critical care nurse and nursing professor with specialty certifications and multiple Master’s degrees in dementia, nursing education, and health care administration. I am a dedicated dementia research consultant and a nursing professor for several colleges on various subjects and am licensed to practice in 33 states.

In 2011, I was named "Nursing Educator of the Year" by the WSU School of Nursing. I have critiqued several hundred research documents and digested hundreds of books on dementia care. The resource links below will be a helpful few.

What I Do

  • I teach classes online for health care providers who wish to become Certified Dementia Practitioners. As Kansas' only certified CDP instructor, I hold classes monthly throughout the state.
  • I meet with families, one-on-one in their homes, who are trying to care for their loved ones with dementia. Caring for a person with dementia in the home is incredibly frustrating, exhausting, and endlessly tiring. I can help.
  • I educate the public to understand there are proactive measures to prevent dementia, and there's someone in their area to help if they need it.
  • I work with long-term care facilities to provide better care and improve state survey results.
  • As a KDADS-approved instructor, I prepare and present classes for all care facilities

Please check out my videos on YouTube about how NOT to get dementia; they are well worth your time and attention.
